Doing business in “Coronatimes”: How to use conditionals

We are experiencing uncertain times with local measures changing on a daily basis taken to combat the virus. Nevertheless, businesses continue to operate to ensure income. This is where you can use conditional sentences in English.

“Coronatimes” are the perfect context to introduce conditional sentences to your daily usage of English. We use conditionals to talk about a (potential) result, which relies on a certain condition. Contrary to what is taught in most schools, there are actually four conditional sentences in English.

These questions help you to determine which conditional you should use.

As you can see above – the context and your evaluation of likelihood determine which type you should use. For example, the difference between type 1 or 2 could reveal whether you are an optimist or not.
